Sapphire Rods
Sapphire plunger rods is made of synthetic corundum single crystal which has good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity and chemical stability. We can provide plunger rods of various materials according to customer’s needs, such as alumina ceramics and zirconia ceramics, and plunger rod assemblies with stainless steel jackets.
Mainly used in high performance liquid chromatography pumps, medical analysis pumps, petroleum pumps and various high-pressure, low-pressure pumps, etc.
Sapphire rods are cylindrical rods made from synthetic sapphire crystal, which is a single crystal form of aluminum oxide (Al2O3). Sapphire is well-known for its exceptional hardness, high optical transparency, and resistance to extreme conditions. This makes sapphire rods suitable for various specialized applications. Here are some of their uses and applications:
Optical Components: Sapphire rods are often used in optical systems. Their high optical clarity and transparency, especially in the UV to near-infrared range, make them ideal for lenses, windows, and prisms in scientific instruments, lasers, and optical sensors.
Laser Technology: Sapphire rods are used as laser gain media, enabling the production of solid-state lasers. The exceptional hardness and thermal conductivity of sapphire help dissipate heat generated during laser operation. This application is especially common in medical and military laser systems.
Aerospace and Defense: Sapphire rods are used in various aerospace and defense applications, such as missile guidance systems, infrared windows, and protective armor. Their resistance to high temperatures and abrasion, as well as their optical properties, make them valuable in these industries.
Scientific Research: In scientific laboratories, sapphire rods are employed in a wide range of experimental setups. Their high mechanical strength and optical quality are advantageous in research applications, including spectroscopy, X-ray detectors, and high-pressure experiments.
It’s important to note that sapphire, while highly desirable for its properties, is relatively expensive compared to other materials. Therefore, its use in many applications is often limited to those requiring its unique combination of characteristics, such as extreme hardness, optical clarity, and resistance to high temperatures and corrosive environments.
